Day 1

Houston Traffic Is Not the BestOn our way home, we get stuck in standstill traffic. Norm suggests going this other special way. We meet a dead end. Jordan is not pleased. We find our way back in the right direction, and Norm continues to offer suggestions. "You're in a Jeep," he insists. Go over the median. Cut that person off. You have a Jeep. Jeeps can do anything. By the time we make it back onto the freeway (and again into traffic) we've lost some time, but at least we're almost out of the worst of it.
An hour later, it's time for home and nap and rally for dinner. |
Eating Chicken Fingers in ShortsMike, Jordan and I meet back up with Norm for dinner at this new place called Chapman and Kirby that's having it's "soft opening." It's supposed to be amazing.
We walk inside and the doorman informs us that they usually don't allow men to wear shorts after 9:30 p.m., but he'll let us in this time. It's not even 9:15 yet. None of us point this out. The inside of this place looks cool - big chandeliers, unique architecture, pretty ambiance - but I'm uncomfortable. The shorts comment didn't exactly set the mood. Also, we can see they've cleared space for the restaurant to transition into a nightclub. As we eat, girls in high heels and skimpy dresses and men in suits start pouring in. The waitress asks us if we're interested in bottle service ($3,500 gets you a bottle of vodka and six sparkling waters. I laugh). It's a strange experience. And then there's the menu. It's mostly burgers. Two salads. Fried calamari. And...chicken fingers. The boys go off on this. We can't wear shorts in here, but you're serving chicken fingers? Mike then does a very un-Mike thing and he orders the chicken fingers. ("Well, now I have to!") We also try the brie pizza (rubbery, way too much cheese), a lemony kale salad (I monopolize this, it's quite good), the fried calamari (the boys were not impressed), mussels (served in a coconut broth, very tasty), candied bacon (also great), another pizza (bleh, no good) and some drinks (again, the boys are not impressed). Overall, the food is a disappointment. We leave with promises to never return. |

Our Favorite Memories
Mike: "Underbelly, and the boat. Basically all the stuff we did."
For me, it has to be wakeboarding. I'm sore, but that was way too fun!
