DAY 1
Drive to Cannon Beach + Dinner & Drinks
Saturday, September 5, 2020
- Drive to Cannon Beach (3 hours & 45 minutes). Get settled, change and get ready for dinner.
- Drinks at the Cannon Beach Hardware Store (cider for me, something else for Monster).
- Dinner reservation at Wayfair Restaurant and Lounge.
- Walked out to the beach, saw all the people with fires and decided to do that tomorrow.
DAY 2
Hiking & Campfire on the Beach
Sunday, September 6, 2020
- Hiked Neahkahnie Mountain. Short scramble and awesome views at the top.
- Lunch at Wanda's Cafe and Bakery.
- Stopped on the way home for firewood.
- Shopping for ornament, Bruce's Candy Kitchen for taffy, plus lighter and starter brick for the campfire.
- Public Coast Brewing for beers.
- Surprisingly good dinner at Cannon Beach Hardware Store.
- Fire on the beach with Brutus, watched the sunset, magic.
DAY 3
Drive to Bend + Breweries & Dinner
Monday, September 7, 2020
- Morning coffee at Sea Level.
- Walked back to Haystack Rock to see if we could find the tufted puffins. They were gone for the year, but we saw the tide pools.
- Drive to Bend. Very smoky from forest fires. Feels like the apocalypse, I'm wondering if this is going to work.
- Ordered a big flight to share at 10 Barrels Brewing.
- Walked through the city, everything is so dead.
- Another stop at Monkless for beers, cozy, just letting go of expectations, decided to eat there.
DAY 4
Coffee with Barnaby, Hiking with Brutus and Breweries
Tuesday, September 8, 2020
- Kevista Coffee for coffee with Barnaby. Chilly, sat outside.
- Hiked Swampy Lake Loop with Brutus. Sandy, dry.
- Went to Active Culture for healthy lunch bowls.
- Out brewery hopping for Mike (I wasn't drinking).
- Dinner at Bangers and Brews.
DAY 5
Smith Rock State Park + Water Activities
Wednesday, September 9, 2020
- Coffee and Ocean Roll (cardamom cinnamon roll) at Spokane Moto.
- Hiking Misery Ridge Rail at Smith Rock State Park. The landscape is different, basalt cliffs.
- Stopped for water on the way home and discovered the best ever coconut water.
- Planned to SUP and drove to the river to scope it out (ended up being too tired, Mike got a drink at Bend Brewing)
- Cancelled SUP plans and took Barnaby to Deschutes Brewery (plus walked to the water to watch people "surfing" the river).
- Stopped back at Bangers and Mash to pick up sausages to go so that Mike could eat them with our leftovers.
DAY 6
Drive Home
